How to use analogies when you face too much in business and life
What do you do when your brain is overloaded, you have too much on your plate, your business is suffering, your sleep is dire, your health is at risk, your relationships aren’t great and your profits are down and you can’t see a way out?
Here’s a coaching strategy I use with great success with clients, from business owners and leaders to whole teams who are working so very hard and not getting the results they deserve. Let me know how it helps you to overcome adversity and tough times so that you excel no matter what you face.
I have a new client.
They were melting as honest business owners do in their first sessions with me.
They said to me some….things.
Big things.
Out of their control things.
These things were in their path to deal with but not theirs to control.
That’s not trauma, that’s life.
Life does that.
You think it’s going on all nice and that and then whoosh away life goes with the proverbial rug pulled from under your feet and you have to find a new level of resolve to deal with that on top of everything else that made up your busy life.
I used the gale outside our windows today hitting the trees.
The tree doesn’t wake up today and say to itself “Today I will be stronger than yesterday, I will change who I am.”
The tree knows it is good enough as it is.
It doesn’t need to change.
It is what it is and it is made for this.
Yes, it’s made for calm summers days, with red squirrels running through it’s branches and birds nesting in it’s trunk, but it’s also made for the harsh winters, the gale force winds and the worst of times just as it is ready for the best of them.
Yes, the tree will lose some old branches.
Old branches that were long dead and should have been cut out years ago.
Yes there could be new damage, but from that ripped limb a new shoot will grow and the tree will be all the stronger for it.
It’s hard sometimes to be so close to the immensity of life, or running your own business that you can’t see the best solution, yes you guessed it….you can’t see the wood for the trees!
So if life and business feel too big right now and you have so many big aspirations or needs for your bank balance, sanity, health and 2026 then look to an analogy to help you make sense of it.
An analogy will help you step back just a bit to see how it feels.
To process it.
And then understand how it feels.
How it impacts upon you.
How it alters your mindset and emotions.
How it impacts on your actions and results.
And then you choose….
Do you be tree and accept who you are and work your way through your storm, or do you do something else?
